The 2019 cycle of Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos Award is now open for nominations. Four teachers will be recognized for their initiatives and concrete contributions to the development of their sector and communities. The guidelines and nomination form may be downloaded here. The last day for submitting nominations is 31 January 2019 (extended deadline). For 2018, Dr. Carla B. The 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject reaffirmed the status of the University of the Philippines as a world-class institution particularly in the natural and social sciences.  UP obtained its best ranking in the clinical, pre-clinical and health subject for the second year in a row. The national university not only rocketed to the 126-150 band from its previous 201-250 position but it also placed 7th globally in terms of citations after earning a nearly perfect score of 98.8 points. Minimally processed fruits have become more visible in the Philippine market, whether in supermarkets or wet markets. Aside from being fresh, nutritious and inexpensive, they do not require preparation or cooking which makes them more attractive to local consumers. However, fresh-cut fruits have shorter shelf life compared to their whole, unprocessed counterparts. The damages incurred during processing promote wound-induced ethylene production that leads to rapid deterioration. UP improves ranking among universities in Asia

The 2019 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Regional Rankings for Asia released yesterday, October 24th, showed improved results for the University of the Philippines. Jumping three places from last year’s ranking, the national university placed 72nd among 503 institutions and was among the top 15 percent of the best Asian universities. UP’s strength was still employer reputation as it retained its 33rd position regionally. Institutions providing the best professionals were listed according to a survey that collected over 43,000 responses from employers around the world. Around 400 members of the research, extension and professional staff (REPS) from the University’s different constituent universities are at the UP System-wide REPS Conference 2018 to review the contributions of REPS to UP’s vision and mission, and discuss the issues and concerns of the REPS as a sector.
