UPOU faculty member named ICT Education Researcher of the Year

A faculty member of the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies of the UP Open University (UPOU) won the Education Researcher of the Year Award at the SM2016/ICT2016 25th International Education and Technology Conference in Hong Kong on 11 April 2016.

Asst. Prof. Roberto Figueroa Jr. was nominated after his presentation at the 2012 Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities in Malaysia where he shared his research on the comparative evaluation of web-based tools that showcased social media and video conferencing for distance education. 

The nomination was recommended by Springer book editor Prof. Phillip M. Tsang, and endorsed by the award committee composed of academics in teaching and learning and chaired by Prof. James Henri of the University of Hongkong.

The ICT Education Researcher of the Year Award recognizes rising academics who have made excellent use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning, as well as to authors, researchers or conference speakers who have made extended contribution in ICT research and business education.

The award comes with a plaque of recognition and serves as an invitation to contribute to the next Springer Book that will be released in December 2016.

Asst. Prof. Figueroa is the program chair of the Diploma in Computer Science program and the Program Development Associate for Multimedia Innovative Technology of the UPOU Multimedia Center. He has published several articles in ICT education and development, and open and distance e-learning.  He has been teaching for 11 years. He was a faculty member of UP Los Baños before he moved to the UP Open University.
