Special General Talk on Hilbert’s Sixth Problem

On the occasion of the publication of his most general solution to the Navier-Stokes equation (2016), a generalization of the existence proof of a solution by construction in 2011, Dr. Amador Muriel of the CUNY Graduate Program in Mathematics will discuss the implication of the completion of Hilbert’s Sixth Problem.

The talk will be on Thursday, 7 April 2016, at 4 p.m. at the Math Building Conference Room, UP Diliman. It will be a non-technical talk for the general audience, emphasizing history. A small group of researchers will be proposed to continue the program started by Ludwig Boltzmann, Vienna,  on non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, via Paul Ehrenfest, Leiden, George Uhlenbeck, Rockefeller University and Max Dresden, Stony Brook, culminating in an attempt to carry on the Dutch school of statistical mechanics, here in Diliman. The suggested completion of Hilbert’s Sixth Problem will be discussed.
