The College of Music of the University of the Philippines and the UP Parish of the Holy Sacrifice, with the support of UP Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan and parish priest Fr. Henry Ferreras, present the nativity portion of G. F. Handel’s immortal classic, The Messiah, on Wednesday, 9 December 2015, 7:00pm, at the UP Parish of the Holy Sacrifice.
Held annually at the UP Campus, the performance of Handel’s Messiah in December is a much-awaited event for it brings together UP Diliman’s world-famous choirs such asthe UP Madrigal Singers, UP Singing Ambassadors, and UP Concert Chorus. This year, the alumni of these choirs and the UP Staff Chorale will join them with guest choir Febias Chorale which is under the direction of Sharon Abesamis, an alumna of the Department of Choral Conducting of the College and who will conduct the work. Solos of the masterpiece will be rendered by teachers of the College such as soprano Ena Maria Aldecoa, alto Camille Lopez Molina, tenor Ramon Acoymo, and bass Jonathan Velasco. UP Arco, resident string ensemble of the College which is trained by Edna Marcil Martinez, the UP College of Music Orchestra Class, and Michelle Nicolasora will provide the accompaniment. Christmas carols and other songs will open the concert in celebration of the holiday season.
