Dr. Jonathan C. Malicsi, Professor Emeritus of Linguistics, will deliver the Concepcion D. Dadufalza Memorial Lecture on 7 December 2018, 6:30 PM, at the Church of the Risen Lord in UP Diliman. He will be joined by soprano Angeli Benipayo (senior voice major, UP College of Music) and pianist Augusto Espino (associate professor, UP College of Music) in the lecture titled Handel’s Testament of Faith: A Deconstruction of “I know that my Redeemer liveth from Handel’s Messiah”.
Professor Malicsi received the 2017 Concepcion D. Dadufalza Award for Distinguished Achievement for his major work that linked the field of linguistics to language teaching and education, in which he redesigned a College English Course based on a linguistic reanalysis of Philippine and International English. His project produced textbooks, workbooks, tests and other teaching materials as well as training courses that have been widely used in the country by educational institutions, multinational companies and key government agencies. He also published reference grammars for both English and Filipino. He is the recipient of the 2014 UP Alumni Association Distinguished Achievement Award for Educational Innovation.
Aside from linguistics, he has made significant contributions to the fields of music and cultural management, research and education. He has been involved in music theater, conducting, musical and artistic direction, and lyrics writing, and has performed in various recitals and concerts as a tenor soloist and as a choir member. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music, major in voice.
The lecture is free and open to all.
Established in 2000, the Concepcion Dadufalza Award aims to keep alive the selfless vision and values of Professor Concepcion Dadufalza by honoring outstanding individuals who have excelled in their craft or have contributed significantly to important causes in society. It is funded by an anonymous donor and managed by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Fifteen professors from the sciences and humanities have received the award since 2001.
