2019 QS World University Rankings: UP has strong employer reputation globally

UP placed in the top 38% in the 2019 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. It was 384th among the 1,011 institutions from 85 countries that were ranked. It also maintained its position as the Philippines’ leading university, despite dropping 17 places from 2018. UP scored particularly well in employer reputation at 49.6 . It ranked 168th globally–an improvement of 23 places from last year–based on the results of a world survey that collected the views of employers “on institutions providing the best professionals”. Over the past decade, Korean studies in the Philippines has grown in scope as an academic discipline. This can be attributed to two factors. First, there are more local institutions now that offer Korea-related courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Second, more Filipino students go to Korea to pursue higher degrees and they return to the Philippines with greater knowledge of Korea. UP is co-organizer of first national writing workshop for LGBTQ poets

The University of the Philippines, together with Goldsmiths University of London, is sponsoring the Philippines’ first National LGBTQ Poetry Workshop as part of the international research and arts consortium called GlobalGRACE (Global Gender and Cultures of Equality). GlobalGRACE is funded by the Research Council UK’s Global Challenges Research Fund. Seventy-one of UP’s most accomplished researchers in the physical and natural sciences, social sciences, management and economics, and engineering were officially recognized as UP Scientists for 2017-2019 in a ceremony held on 21 March at the Bahay ng Alumni in UP Diliman. National Scientist Lourdes Cruz is most cited researcher from UP

National Scientist and UP Professor Emeritus Lourdes Cruz has the most number of publications with the highest impact among UP researchers. This was according to the Webometrics Ranking of Scientists in Philippine Institutions released in January 2017. The list is a BETA ranking based on the researcher’s presence in the Google Scholar Citations database. It includes the top 453 scholars in the Philippines–267 of them from UP–with h-indices of at least five.
