Over the past decade, Korean studies in the Philippines has grown in scope as an academic discipline. This can be attributed to two factors. First, there are more local institutions now that offer Korea-related courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. Second, more Filipino students go to Korea to pursue higher degrees and they return to the Philippines with greater knowledge of Korea. UP is co-organizer of first national writing workshop for LGBTQ poets
The University of the Philippines, together with Goldsmiths University of London, is sponsoring the Philippines’ first National LGBTQ Poetry Workshop as part of the international research and arts consortium called GlobalGRACE (Global Gender and Cultures of Equality). National Scientist and UP Professor Emeritus Lourdes Cruz has the most number of publications with the highest impact among UP researchers. This was according to the Webometrics Ranking of Scientists in Philippine Institutions released in January 2017. The list is a BETA ranking based on the researcher’s presence in the Google Scholar Citations database.
