UP Diliman professor Alfredo Lagmay receives 2015 Plinius Medal

Professor Alfredo Lagmay, professor at the University of the Philippines (UP) National Institute of Geological Sciences and executive director of the Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (NOAH), received the 2015 Plinius Medal from the European Geosciences Union for his “outstanding interdisciplinary natural-hazard research and natural-disaster engagement in the Philippines, particularly with respect to volcanic hazards, earthquakes, typhoons, landslides and floods.” Lagmay is a leading international scientific expert on natural disasters. SiningSaysay: History, art and public discourse

Recently launched SiningSaysay blazed a trail in history painting by presenting the journey of the Filipino people from pre-history to present-day society in a series of “murals” on canvas. A joint undertaking of the University of the Philippines (UP), the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) and the Araneta Group Inc., the exhibit features 30 grand paintings, each measuring 12 feet wide by 6 feet high. The National Book Development Board (NBDB), the government agency mandated to develop and support the Philippine book publishing industry, has recently launched a call for applications for the National Book Development Trust Fund Grant for 2015. Authors and organizations are invited to submit at least 25 percent of their manuscripts or research works for books. The chosen works will receive a grant of P200,000.00 each. It was held last March 16, the date when the UP Press – the first university press in the country – was put up in 1965. Research grants for foreign scholars in Chinese Studies

The Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) has been established to promote research in Chinese studies in the Republic of China (Taiwan) and overseas, and to facilitate communication among scholars and institutions worldwide.  The CCS, based in the ROC National Central Library, is now offering Research grants to Foreign Scholars in Chinese Studies. Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso is 2013 Concepcion D. Dadufalza Awardee for Distinguished Achievement

UP Open University (UPOU) Chancellor Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso is the latest recipient of the Concepcion D. Dadufalza Award for Distinguished Achievement.
