UP achieves big move in natural, social sciences in new subject rankings
The 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject reaffirmed the status of the University of the Philippines as a world-class institution particularly in the natural and social sciences. UP obtained its best ranking in the clinical, pre-clinical and health subject for the second year in a row. The national university not only rocketed to the 126-150 band from its previous 201-250 position but it also placed 7th globally in terms of citations after earning a nearly perfect score of 98.8 points. Minimally processed fruits have become more visible in the Philippine market, whether in supermarkets or wet markets. Aside from being fresh, nutritious and inexpensive, they do not require preparation or cooking which makes them more attractive to local consumers. However, fresh-cut fruits have shorter shelf life compared to their whole, unprocessed counterparts. The damages incurred during processing promote wound-induced ethylene production that leads to rapid deterioration.
