The applications of ‘Omics technologies in health is huge, and improving local capability in this area is among the priorities of the Philippine Genome Center’s Health Program.
To increase the level of awareness and correct misconceptions in pursuing ‘Omics research in the country, the Philippine Genome Center in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) invites early career researchers to apply to the international workshop on infectious diseases focusing on ‘Omics technology on November 5-9, 2018.
To engage more researchers from colleges, state universities and research institutes outside Manila, particularly from the Visayas and Mindanao regions, the Philippine Genome Center is extending the deadline for application to October 14.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Participants may range from MSc graduates and research assistants with extensive research experience, to PhD graduates and early-career researchers with a maximum of 10 years post-PhD research experience.
• Participants must have a post (research contract/fellowship) in a research or recognized institution at a recognized institution in either the UK or the Philippines.

WORKSHOP PROPER
Venue: Philippine Genome Center Training Room, National Science Complex, UP Diliman
The workshop will consist two symposia on ID ‘omics and control, flanking a hands-on analytical/computational short course in ‘omics data generation and analysis of raw ‘omics data, integration, and correlation with disease outcomes.
Only thirty participants will be accepted to attend the hands-on workshop and they are expected to attend Day 1 to Day 4; and are required to bring a hard drive or USB with at least 8 GB usable memory.
Those who will not be selected to participate in the workshop will receive a confirmation email to attend the opening and closing symposium.
Participants are also welcome to join the poster session. Abstracts relating to the genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and bioinformatics analysis of infectious diseases must be sent to [email protected]
OPENING & CLOSING SYMPOSIUM
Venue: Institute of Biology Auditorium, National Science Complex, UP Diliman
November 5 and November 8 (afternoon) will feature presentations, talks and case studies on the use of ‘Omics technology for disease control and management as well as the role of the PGC and its links to public health.

The British Council and the Philippine’s Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) will cover the costs related to workshop participation, including: travel, accommodation, and meals. Although this cost will not be covered by the British Council or DOST, participants are encouraged to purchase an adequate travel and medical insurance.
