RDG Conference Report of Kurt Junshean P. Espinosa

Write up about the Conference

The conference has provided me another perspective where computer science techniques are widely used especially in optimization problems in industrial engineering. Many papers used artificial intelligence techniques to improve efficiency in the process such as dynamic vehicle route planning, traffic management and automation, optimization of inventories, etc.

Feedback on paper presented

In the talk I delivered, some people asked if the popularity of the Philippines s a BPO/KPO destination was brought about by the ICT education provided. They also asked details on how the Delphi approach to generating consensus can be applied in industrial processes.

Future directions of research presented

The research direction of the talk I presented can still be improved by creating a generalized system that can be applied in industrial processes.

Other important contacts and insights

One of the important insights about the conference was that how the other countries have made use extensively the computer science techniques in improving business processes.

Short write-up of one’s participation (to be used to feature/publicize the grantee’s participation in the conference)

Prof. Kurt Junshean Espinosa of the Department of Computer Science in UP Cebu was invited to deliver a talk on Global Engineering Education in the case of the Philippines based on his previous research on ICT education framework and implementation model. he shared with them the importance of creating frameworks to be able to establish a standard in the education sector. Aside from the framework, there is a need for an implementation model after each higher education institution has been assessed using the framework. Each institution will have to base any improvement on their education on that implementation model which will be evaluated and monitored regularly for improvements. ICT education, in particular, cannot be limited to acquiring more ICT facilities, but rather, improving the integration into the curriculum and policies of the school. The whole institution must be united in that vision guided by a cause champion. During the talk the participants alluded that probably why the Philippines is getting ahead in BPO/KPO arena is because of the ICT integration done. Indeed, ICT integration done by each institution has contributed to it but there is still a lot of improvement to be done
