Write up about the Conference
The theme of the conference was: Interdisciplinary Studies for Global Education Building Bridge through ASEAN and it was appropriately captured by the Keynote Speaker and the different session plenary speakers. Since 2004, the Royal Institute of Thailand established the Interdisciplinary Network funded primarily by the Royal Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The 2013 conference was organized and hosted by the Maejo University at Chiang Mai, Thailand.
According to Dr. Prida Wibulsawas from Academy of Science, Royal Institute of Thailand, that the interdisciplinary researches are encouraged because there is the transfer of methods from one discipline to another allowing researches to spill over to another disciplinary boundaries. Dr. Gil C. Saguiguit, Jr., director of SEARCA reported the trend of interdisciplinary researches of its funded projects and pushes the level of transdisciplinary works since this is the marriage of the new and indigenous knowledge.
There were 92 poster papers and 196 oral papers accepted for presentations.
Feedback on paper presented
a) The first paper (An assessment of the fitness status of young adults enrolled in physical education at UPLB, Philippines) got reactions regarding statistical tools specifically on the sample used. There were also suggestions to do a similar study for the professors of the university.
b) The second paper (Motivational Factors and Level of Satisfaction of UPLB Students in Choosing Shakti as a Physical Activity) was appreciated on its merits as de-stressor to the university students. Another presentor, Dr. Patcharapom Panyamithikrai, was interested in the practice because she was also into brain based learning.
Future directions of research presented
The first paper will be submitted for possible publication.
The second paper is published in the special issue of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Research (no. 2).

Short write-up of one’s participation (to be used to feature/publicize the grantee’s participation in the conference)
The International Conference on Interdisciplinary Research and Development in ASEAN Universities was held last August 8-10, 2013 at the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The two papers I presented entitled: 1)An assessment of the fitness status of young adults enrolled in physical education at UPLB, Philippines and 2) Motivational Factors and Level of Satisfaction of UPLB Students in Choosing Shakti as a Physical Activity were classified under the Health and Wellness and Applied Education sessions respectively. Fortunately, the second paper was accepted for publication at the Special Issue on the Journal of Interdisciplinary Networks Volume 2 (1) Jan-June 2013.
The experience of sharing our research highlights and outcome to different nationalities was tremendous. Personally, I have learned a lot from the papers of my counterparts from the rest of ASEAN universities. The hours listening to papers relevant to my discipline have added insights to me on how to work and what to work upon back in my home country
