Lingnan is inviting qualified students to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPF), a scheme established by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong to attract brilliant students from around the world. Each fellowship awardee will be provided HK$20,000 per month (US$1=HK$7.8).
Lingnan is Hong Kong’s liberal arts university, whose small size, top international faculty and strong emphasis on close staff and student relationships offer a unique environment for the pursuit of advanced studies in this exciting part of the world. The University offers MPhil and PhD programmes in the Arts, Business and Social Sciences disciplines. One exciting area at Lingnan that offers a wonderful academic environment for MPhil and doctoral studies in Hong Kong is Political Science.
Internationally-experienced faculty members have quality publication records and some are recognised as experts in their fields of study. Faculty members in the Political Science Department specialize in a wide range of sub-disciplines, such as the governance and public policies of Hong Kong and China, Asian-Pacific international relations, regional and global politics, public policy and environmental studies. Particular strengths in instruction and supervision include Chinese reform politics, regionalism, global environmental politics, sport-politics nexus, Chinese foreign and security policies, Korean peninsula politics, and democratization in Asia.
Applicants may seek admission to our PhD programmes in two ways as follows:
- Outstanding and brilliant applicants may seek admission via the HKPFS by 1 December 2015 (Hong Kong Time 12:00 noon). Students who apply for and do not get the fellowship can still be considered for the regular PhD places at Lingnan.
- Applicants may apply to the University directly during 2 November 2015 to 29 January 2016. Normally, full-time PhD students will be awarded Postgraduate Studentships which offer a monthly stipend of HK$15,150* (amount subject to review).
*To be raised to HK$15,460 after confirmation of candidature.
Lingnan also has the popular and excellent research-based two-year MPhil Political Science programme. Applicants may apply for admission to our MPhil programmes directly during 2 November 2015 to 29 January 2016. Full-time MPhil students will also be awarded Postgraduate Studentships which offer a monthly stipend of HK$14,940 (amount subject to review).
