UP shortlisted for research excellence category in Times Higher Education Awards Asia

The University of the Philippines is one of the eight universities shortlisted for the Times Higher Education (THE) DataPoints Merit Award in THE Awards Asia 2020. This was announced at yesterday’s Virtual THE Live Asia webinar.

The DataPoints Merit Award looks at “Asian universities that could be considered ‘unsung heroes’ — those whose research excellence outpaces the recognition of their strength among the 10,000+ academics polled across the globe in [the] annual reputation survey.”

THE Awards Asia seeks to recognize outstanding leadership and institutional performance in ten categories: Outstanding Leadership and Management Team, International Strategy of the Year, Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year, Outstanding Support for Students, Technological Innovation of the Year, Workplace of the Year, Student Recruitment Campaign of the Year, Excellence and Innovation on the Arts, Regional or Societal Impact Award and THE DataPoints Merit Award.

All categories require submission of entries except for the last two. For the THE DataPoints Merit Award, THE assesses the detailed data underlying the World University Rankings. The shortlist is compiled “after analysis of the data collected by [THE] for its suite of rankings” and “reveals aspects of university performance that are not necessarily obvious in [the] published rankings results.”

The virtual awards ceremony will be held in November.

THE Awards Asia was launched last year initially with five categories.
