Almost a year after winning the 2nd Gawad Pangulo for Progressive Teaching and Learning, Dr. Luis Sison of the College of Engineering is now vying for an international award in higher education pedagogy.
Sison was selected to advance in the Reimagine Education competition with his project “HIRIT: Higher education Institutional Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship,” the same entry that secured him the Gawad Pangulo title in December 2015.
The entry, based on his MS-level course IE 298, helps students identify and pursue market opportunities that can be addressed by technology.
IE 298 is delivered via flipped classroom with lectures and readings posted on UvLe (University Virtual Learning Environment) before each class. Sison not only improved the course but also made it accessible to other graduate and undergraduate students.
Reimagine Education received over 500 projects this year and of these, only 120 were chosen to contend for the category awards, regional awards and for the honor of being the overall winner.
An international panel of 40 distinguished judges will evaluate the best projects and select the winning entries. The overall winner will receive a US$ 50,000 cash prize. The Award Ceremony and gala dinner will take place on 6 December at the Reimagine Education Conference to be held in Philadelphia.
In addition to his work as an engineering professor, Sison also heads the UP System Technology Transfer and Business Development Office, the unit in charge of the university’s intellectual property affairs.
